officer post

Post  wistler65 on Wed Jan 04, 2012 12:25 am

whilst everyone is considering new officer posts I would like to add my name to the list of prospective officers . I have been on-line with bp since it first came on line although I had to take a long break to go and fight a real war in the real world . I think I can offer a good range of advise on the way to develop our alliance and of course I've been involved in real life. life and death decision making in the real world . I understand that this is not a requirement to be an officer in bp or there would be precious few officers at all but it is invaluable when dealing with people in an unbiased way. We seem to have very few officers which has led to various niggling disputes normally centring on occasions where an officer must make a decision on an issue and there is no officer available or on line. I think that we are all agreed that it is really frustrating when you are prevented from defending yourself and have to just sit idle whilst someone is either deliberately breaking our rules or has no intention in following them in the first place. It is then made even worse when the injured party decides enough is enough and hits back without permission . only to be brought up and challenged for his actions. This whole situation can be cured by a bit of a rethink of our command structure. I have noticed that the decision making and higher posts within the sector command structure are held by very few and guarded with zeal . I understand that we don't want a structure where we have to many chiefs and not enough Indians but I think a better balance must be struck. my thoughts on the matter is it may be good to create more rank structure so we have more middling ranks for instance we could go from sailor rank to a lieutenant then to Capitan then commander etc. each rank would have a more active powers which would be tied to the experience that particular player has . This I feel would give a more active command structure leading to decisions being made instantly as the game plays out . I've worked all my life on a command structure like the one I have suggested and I can say it works and works very well.
I am putting myself forward for an advancement to officer because I have a lifetime of dealing with issues involving complex decision making in all sorts of area I am very good at mediation and can generally see the better path to take . this sector is generally very good at responding to threats from other sectors but recently lots more people have joined our sector and the response to various situation has been a bit disjointed and not running as smooth as it used to . There is no blame attached to this its generally happening in my opinion because we are still operating as we were before all the new players joined.
This is not a request to enforce the ideas I have mentioned its just my thoughts on the matter and I invite any response you may have either positive or negative .
lastly I think that in general advancement in rank decision making and responsibility should not be awarded on seniority it should be awarded on how good the individual is at playing. As we all know just because a person has been playing from day one doesn't mean he is better than a party that has been playing for 3 months .Good leadership is a personal thing and I have seen plenty of players that are natural leaders but are held back by silly inter sector back biting and the "my ships bigger than your ship" situations.
If you like what i have said please back my in my request for advancement to officer

Regards

Good post, pal. I certainly want to work with players that have at least an equal interest in their sector-mates game compared to their own. I've also noticed some of the dynamics have changed around the game with the increased interest in 'relocating' temporarily and I have good information on how other sectors 'regulate' from very dictatorial or conflicted through our perceived bureaucracy to total chaos and unregulated. I don't want to be presumptuous in my estimation of what direction the sector is taking, but we may actually need less strictures now than in past since 'good' behaviour seems to be the norm. I still respect the structure that preceeds me and put my in a 'leader' role, so I'm asking up to evaluate where we go next to advance 292 as a premier place to pirate for long and short term residents.

Plz comment on to this thread, gang. Don't let the few up above misinterpret how you think we can rock at this game. You players have the power, not the O's, kk, so we need to serve you. - D P R

Thanks for your prompt reply
I'm also happy that you understood the nature of what I was trying to say . I am trying to get an officer rank but I think I can bring quite a lot of positive points with me which I think is important also an unbiased opinion so people don't think decisions are made due to favouritism. and the other issue is having as close to 24 hour officer cover as possible
